PRINCE GEORGE, Va. – An agreement signed today between Prince George County and Fort Lee has potential to save lives.

The partnership strengthens emergency response efforts through shared use of Prince George’s 911 Computer-Aided Dispatch, or CAD system.  As a partner, Fort Lee purchased automation and locator upgrades for the system, which improve the accuracy and delivery of information for callers, dispatchers and responders.  Sharing the CAD provides the two, who already share lines of jurisdiction and mutual aid agreements, a number of benefits:

  • Upgraded 911 CAD capabilities will decrease emergency response times and increase accuracy of emergency reporting in PGC and Fort Lee.
  • Upgrades to the 911 CAD will bring the PGC 911 system in compliance with the Enhanced 911 dispatch standards, mandatory by 2022.
  • Fort Lee’s total 5-year investment is $308K, which represents a $5.3M cost avoidance over five years for taxpayers (difference in cost for a new CAD system).

This public-to-public arrangement utilizes an Intergovernmental Support Agreement, or IGSA as the framework to improve services through partnerships, while avoiding additional costs.

Video of Prince George County Administrator Percy Ashcraft and Fort Lee Garrison Commander Col. Hollie Martin signing the IGSA at the Prince George County Emergency Operations Center can be seen here: https://www.fortleepresscenter.com/20190208_igsa_signing
